Teenage Students Raising Hands

Language arts has much to offer in developing students’ capability to use English to respond and give expression to real and imaginative experience. It seeks to develop students’ language sensitivity and cultural awareness, as well as creative and critical thinking through the use of imaginative or literary texts. Exposure to a wide range of language arts materials at the junior secondary level enhances students’ language skills as well as prepares students for the language arts modules in the Elective Part at the senior secondary level, namely, Learning English through Drama, Learning English through Short Stories and Learning English through Poems and Songs. The use of language arts materials also provides opportunities for the integrated use of language skills, meaningful extension of English language learning and development of generic skills.

Curriculum

Reading a Book

F1

Our F1 curriculum focuses on phonics and poems & songs to help our new students build a solid foundation for the pronunciation of the language. We tailor our school-based materials to our students' special needs. Besides, reading is emphasised so various reading materials are selected to arouse students' interest in reading.

Theartre performance

F2

The F2 curriculum sustains what the students have achieved in the previous year. While the appreciation of poetry is going on, students will showcase their talents in radio dramas and on-stage shows after reading selected novels. All this aims at preparing them to become confident English learners.
